[Tianjin, China], 8th January, 2024 - The Domestic Submarine Cable of Maldives (DSCoM) invested by telecommunication companies Dhiraagu and Ooredoo lands on the shores of Hulhumale’. The DSCoM system consists of 5 segments and connects 8 islands in the Maldives, including Hulhumale’, Maafushi, Maamigili and Kudahuvadhoo. As an important national backbone network covering multiple core areas in the Maldives, the DSCoM system will significantly improve high-speed network coverage and build resiliency for the development of the digital economy in the island nation.
The seabed of Maldives is mostly coral reefs and the terrain is very steep. The seabed slope is generally 20-40 degrees, with the maximum reaching 70 degrees along the reef edge. HMN Tech provides end-to-end customized solutions for the complex seabed topography rich in coral reefs, applying armored cable with advanced mechanical protection. The mature inner vault steel wires design provides excellent hydrostatic resistance and tensile strength. The external galvanized armor wires further improve wear resistance and satisfies the special geographical environment requirements of coral reefs. In addition, submarine cables are double protected during shore-end installation, significantly improving the reliability of the system.
The Domestic Submarine Cable of Maldives (DSCoM) is scheduled to complete the delivery including marine installation and system acceptance in the first quarter of 2024. After the DSCoM system is put into commercial use, it will provide higher capacity, higher speed and wider coverage communication services in the Maldives, and inject new momentum into the digital and intelligent transformation of South Asia.
